Iowa's elected and appointed utility policymakers decide who pays for what and how work gets done. Under the state's regulatory model, the Iowa Utilities Commission reviews utility costs, large customers have paid their own way for decades, and utilities cannot recover investments they cannot justify. That includes new large customers such as data centers. IUA's policy work helps maintain that framework for the Iowa families, farms and businesses that depend on it.
